Stimming and Workplace

Do you know what “stimming” means?

Stimming is a means for #neurodivergent people to self-regulate and is an adaptive mechanism that may allow people to self-soothe or communicate any intense feelings or thoughts. Stimming is also known as self regulation behaviours.

There are numerous reasons why someone might stim, and they differ from person to person. For instance, it could be used to convey happinessadjust to a new or difficult environment, increase or decrease sensory input, manage stress and anxiety, and help obstruct uncertainty. With the exception of stimming, which can lead to self-injury, it is recommended that stimming be viewed positively and # not discouraged in the workplace.

Unfortunately, many neurodivergent people have been compelled to conceal and suppress these behaviours out of a fear of social stigma, and hostile job or educational situations.

This is an excellent illustration of the significance of sensitizing and understanding, as well as the need for employers to be aware of the detrimental effects that suppressing stimming can have on neurodiverse people.

Stimming deserves # acceptance as well as recognition for the function it fulfils.
